Deuteronomy Deductions

Rebuttal to Answering-Islam: THE DEUTERONOMY DEDUCTIONS:

The article by David Wood can be found here:

http://www.answering-islam.org/Authors/Wood/deuteronomy_deductions.htm

He starts the article with the following verse of the Bible but with dots:

But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death.” [Deuteronomy 18:20]

It is absolutely agreed and one finds no problem with this verse.

However, David Wood, just like the other trinitarian Craig Winn, uses unreliable quotes from unreliable books. He quotes the following from Al-Tabari’s book:

“I have fabricated things against God and have imputed to Him words which He has not spoken.”
~MUHAMMAD (Al-Tabari 6:111)

The start is a very poor one by David Wood as explained below and he shamelessly uses it. Actually it is always the start that is misinterpreted and twisted upon which the enemies of Islam base their claims on. If the base is dis-proven, the entire effort by anti Islamic missionaries becomes wasted there and then.

David Wood, later in his article, has asked for reasons of rejecting such narrations, all these have been answered below.

Islamic historians would simply compile all the known narrations about a certain event, regardless of how authentic or reliable each of those narrations were. They would copy the Isnads (chains of transmitters) into their books, in order that the Muhaditheen (scholars of Hadith) could determine which narration was Sahih/Hasan (authentic/good) and which was Dhaeef (weak) or even Mawdoo (fabricated). In other words, the historians compiled the narrations, and the Muhaditheen authenticated them. Therefore, based on the above, we find that Tareekh at-Tabari is simply a collection of narrations on certain events; some of these narrations are accurate, whereas others are not. The authenticity of each narration depends on the Isnad (chain of transmitters): if the narration was transmitted by reliable narrators, then it would be accepted as valid, but if it was transmitted by unreliable people, then the narration was to be disregarded.Tabari says in a disclaimer in the introduction of his book:I shall likewise mention those (narrators) who came after them, giving additional information about them. I do this so that it can be clarified whose transmission (of traditions) is praised and whose information is transmitted, whose transmission is to be rejected and whose transmission is to be disregarded…The reader should know that with respect to all I have mentioned and made it a condition to set down in this book of mine, I rely upon traditions and reports which have been transmitted and which I attribute to their transmitters. I rely only very rarely upon (my own) rationality and internal thought processes. For no knowledge of the history of men of the past and of recent men and events is attainable by those who were not able to observe them and did not live in their time, except through information and transmission produced by informants and transmitters. This knowledge cannot be brought out by reason or produced by internal thought processes. This book of mine may contain some information mentioned by me on the authority of certain men of the past, which the reader may disapprove of and the listener may find detestable, because he can find nothing sound and no real meaning in it. In such cases, he should know that it is not my fault that such information comes to him, but the fault of someone who transmitted it to me. I have merely reported it as it was reported to me.(Tareekh at-Tabari, Vol.1, Introduction)

Prophecies of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) can still be found in the massively altered Bibles.

Some trinitarians have made poor attempts to disprove them but they haven’t even touched 20% of these prophecies and just circle around Deuteronomy’s Prophet like Moses. This clearly shows their desperation.

David Wood states:

Argument A—false gods and false prophets

A1. If a person speaks in the names of false gods, that person is a false prophet.
A2. Muhammad spoke in the names of false gods.
——————————————————
A3. Therefore, Muhammad was a false prophet.

Response: A1 is simple logic which no one denies but A2 is a false claim. He spoke in the name of Allah, in whose name the Jews and Christians also used to speak.

A Christian knowledgeable in his own book would not make such pathetic claims. A knowledgeable Christian would be embarrassed if he made such pathetic claims.

David Wood says:

Argument B—false revelations and false prophets

B1. If a person delivers a revelation that doesn’t come from God, that person is a false prophet.
B2. Muhammad delivered a revelation that didn’t come from God.
——————————————————
B3. Therefore, Muhammad was a false prophet.

Response:

Mr. Wood must remember that his readers are not kindergarten students.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) delivered the message received from God Almighty.

David wood states, “Deuteronomy 18 serves as the foundation of Islam’s “Argument from Biblical Prophecy…” If only he used a little bit of his brain, he would have seen that Deuteronomy’s prophecy is one of the hundreds.

Christians have concentrated their efforts only to the prophecy in Deuteronomy and have ignored the other thousands of prophecies. The reason is that they are more specific than this one; the one in Deuteronomy can be twisted whereas other cannot be. However, truth stands out from error.

David Wood again quotes the verse of the Bible which he quoted in the beginning:

“But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.” (Deuteronomy 18:20)

In wonder why he is desperate to prove the last Prophet of God wrong when Prophets in his own Bible left God, married pagan women and worshipped their gods! I wonder why Mr. Wood is not on a crusade against such Prophets! I wonder why he does not preach rejection for such Prophets and therefore, of the Old Testament.

The recording of narrations in books of history such as that of Al-Tabari above is more acceptable to Mr. Wood than what is really more reliable.

He states, “In fact, the historical method virtually guarantees the legitimacy of the story.” These might be correct but for them to be correct, they have to be from reliable people and not hypocrites. Considering the hate for Islam in the hearts of people like Mr. Wood’s, it would not be any surprise that the satanic verses lie was fabricated by a blind hater like him. The person narrating must be reliable otherwise the narration becomes completely useless. One cannot accept the statements of the enemies of Islam, the ones who were always on the wrong, to be above the ones who were always fighting for the truth.

David Wood states, “We also see that the story couldn’t have been invented by non-Muslims; for if non-Muslims had invented the story, Muslims would have exposed the story’s origin, instead of defending it in their earliest historical works.”

Muslims did expose the origins of the story. They declared war against the false prophets like Musailma Kazzab and many other hypocrites. Besides, inventing lies is not a big problem for the liars, this is their job. For example, the Prophet once recited some surahs to the pagans in Makkah and prostrated to God Almighty at the end. The pagans who were speechless at the beauty of the recitation also prostrated. When the news spread to the leaders of the pagans, they were upset and were looking to take action against those pagans who had prostrated. In order to defend themselves, those pagans lied that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) had said good things about their false gods. The lie was made to defend themselves. David Wood believes that such a story is fantasy and that no non-Muslim ever does that now. This is just the opinion of Mr. Wood and it is very clear that Mr. Wood has not read the testimonies of new Muslims; one former Christian priest from Ireland stated that he started crying when he heard the following verse:

“Certainly, you will find the strongest among men in enmity to the Believers (Muslims) the Jews and those who are Pagans, and you will find the nearest in love to the Believers (Muslims) those who say: “We are Christians.” That is because amongst them are priests (Men devoted to learning) and monks (men who have renounced the world), and because they do not behave proudly. And when they listen to what has been sent down to the Messenger (Muhammad), you see their eyes overflowing with tears, for they recognize the truth. They say: “Our Lord! We believe; so write us down among the witnesses. And why should we not believe in Allah and in that which has come to us of the truth (Islamic Monotheism) and we wish that our Lord will admit us (in Paradise on the Day of Resurrection) along with the righteous people?” So because of what they said, Allah rewarded them Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise), they will abide therein forever. Such is the reward of good-doers. But those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, they shall be the dwellers of the Hell-Fire.” (Holy Qur’an 5:82-86)

Regarding this prostration, Mr. Wood feels that “Bukhari’s hadith makes far more sense when read in the light of historical works…” Whenever a crime or any incident takes place, the story has two sides. Each party has it’s own story and believing in one side of the coin and rejecting the other blindly is just a shameful act.

Similarly, lies against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) were invented by the hypocrites from among the Jews in order to reject him. The people were certain that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) was the awaited one and to defend themselves, the hypocrites from the Jews invented such lies.

The argument by David Wood that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) openly said that he lied is just pathetic and childish as can be seen by his style of explaining above. Making use of the weakest of weak narrations is the job of the hypocrites.

“And We did not send before you any apostle or prophet, but when he desired, the Shaitan made a suggestion respecting his desire; but Allah annuls that which the Shaitan casts, then does Allah establish His communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise.” (Surah 22:52)

The above explanation is sufficient to prove that the possibilities A2 and B2 are nothing but pathetic attempts to malign the last Prophet of God Almighty.

David Wood later goes on to make fun of himself again, “the prophecy of a coming messenger like Moses is one of the last remaining verses that Muslims—in spite of the evidence—cling to in their hopes of vindicating Muhammad.”

The Muslims have hundreds of prophecies and not just one.

David Wood has asked as to why the Prophet couldn’t receive something from Satan. This has been answered by the verse of the Quran above, also posted below:

“And We did not send before you any apostle or prophet, but when he desired, the Shaitan made a suggestion respecting his desire; but Allah annuls that which the Shaitan casts, then does Allah establish His communications, and Allah is Knowing, Wise.” (Surah 22:52)

Mr. Wood makes the same old comment of the Prophet being possessed by demons. The reality is much different and such a statement only shows his lack of knowledge. Magic is different from being possessed by demons. “Black” in “black magic” refers to something used for evil, demons do not arise anywhere. Magic affects the person’s mind just like hypnotism and has nothing to do with being possessed by demons. Mr. Wood must stop watching too many movies; his source of knowledge is obvious!

David Wood’s conclusion that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) had Satan behind him just reminds one of the story of Lazarus when Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) raised him from death by the permission of God Almighty. The hypocrites around him stated that “the devil was behind him”. Such allegations have been labeled at Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) as well and it is no surprise at all.

If David Wood feels that the hypocrites were telling the truth and he really praised the pagan gods, then he must also accept the hypocrites around Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) who claimed the same for Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him).

Just like the hypocrites invented lies against the Prophets of the Old Testament (sinners, rapists, killers, incest performers, idol worshippers, nudists etc), they invented lies against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) but the difference is that Muslims have rejected these hypocrites and have thrown them of their books whereas the Christians have accepted these hypocrites as their trustworthy leaders.

  1. Christians or the church of God?

The Bible refers to those who are in Christ Jesus as the church of God (1 Cor.10:32, 1 Cor.1:2, 1 Cor.15:9, Gal.1:13 below). The world refers to us as Christians (Acts 11:26 below).

When we (Jews and Gentiles – 1 Cor.10:32 below) are baptized into Christ by the Holy Spirit we are no longer Jews or Gentiles (Eph.2:16 below); we have become a “new” creature (2 Cor.5:17, Gal.6:15 below); we have BECOME individually, as well as collectively, Jesus’ living body (Col.1:24 below), the church of God.

    The church of God –

1 Cor.10:32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

1 Cor.1:2 Unto the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above) which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s:

1 Cor.15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above).

Gal.1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above), and wasted it:.

Col.1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body’s sake, which IS the church (1 Cor.10:32, 1 Cor.1:2, 1 Cor.15:9, Gal.I:13 above).

    Christians –

Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church (1 Cor.10:32 above), and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

    A New Creature –

2 Cor.5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Gal.6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature (2 Cor.5:17 above).

    Neither Jews nor Gentiles –

Eph.2:16 And that he might reconcile BOTH (Jews and Gentiles) unto God in one body (the church of God, 1 Cor.10:32 above) by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
