Prophet Muhammad in the Bible

Selected & Compiled by Waqar Akbar Cheema

Before discussing various prophecies about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in the Bible let’s first establish one thing;

The Jews were expecting a Great and Powerful Prophet besides the coming the Christ (PBUH).
The Jews expected a Prophet :

Even a brief but a careful study of the Jewish and the Christian scriptures reveals that almost all the Prophets told their people about the coming of the Most Powerful and the Most Effective of all the Prophets. And even at the time of Prophet Jesus (PBUH) the Jews were waiting that Great Messenger of God. And some of the Jews (Israelites) thought Jesus (PBUH) to be “that Prophet”. But Jesus quite logically and vociferously refuted this assumption. We are told that the Jews posed three questions to John the Baptist (PBUH);

“AND THEY ASKED HIM, AND SAID UNTO HIM, WHY BAPTIZEST THOU THEN,

IF THOU BE NOT CHRIST, NOR ELIAS, NEITHER THAT PROPHET?”

(John 1:25)

This testimony of the Bible confirms that Jews were expecting, besides Elias (in his second coming) and Christ, another Prophet1.

I MUHAMMAD (PBUH) IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

1-MUHAMMAD (PBUH) IS “SHILOH”(Genesis 49:10):

Prophet Jacob (PBUH) while on his deathbed told his children;

“THE SCPTRE SHALL NOT DEPART FROM JUDAH, NOR A LAWGIVER

FROM BETWEEN HIS FEET UNTIL SHILOH COME; AND UNTO HIM

SHALL THE GATHERING OF THE PEOPLE BE.”

(Genesis 49:10)

This practically means that the royal scepter and the office of Prophethood will remain in the tribe of Judah only until “Shiloh” comes. Who can Shiloh be?

Certainly not Moses (PBUH) because he was the first organizer of the Twelve Tribes of Israel.
Decidedly not David(PBUH) because he was the first King Prophet from the Tribe of Judah and even after him there were Prophets and Kings from this tribe like his own son Solomon(PBUH).
Surely not Jesus (PBUH) he was also from the same lineage down from Judah. Further he never tasted the (Royal) Scepter.
No doubt the “Shiloh” foretold by Prophet Jacob is Muhammad (PBUH), the Messenger of God because;

He was an Ishmaelite and not a descendent of Judah which in the light of above verse is the first proof of his being “Shiloh”.
He did taste the royal scepter and before his demise he became the de facto King of Arabia.
He came with a new Law i.e. Quran to replace the old worn-out and impractical Jewish Law.
The second interpretation of this word “Shiloh” is equally important. This word may also be interpreted as “peaceful, tranquil and trustworthy”. This interpretation also fits Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as even before Prophethood he was called “Al-Amin” which means exactly the same i.e. “peaceful, tranquil and trustworthy”.2

2-MUHAMMAD (PBUH), “THE PROPHET LIKE MOSES” (Deuteronomy 18:18-19):

The God said to Prophet Moses (PBUH);

“I WILL RAISE THEM UPA PROPHET AMONG THEIR BRETHREN. LIKE

UNTO THEE, AND I WILL PUT MY WORDS IN HIS MOUTH; AND HE

SHALL SPEAK UNTO THEM ALL THAT I SHALL COMMAND HIM”

“AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS, THAT WHOSOEVER WILL NOT HEARKEN

UNTO MY WORDS WHICH HE SHALL SPEAK IN MY NAME, I WILL REQUIRE

IT OF HIM” (Deuteronomy 18:18-19)

Christians claim that this Prophecy refers to Jesus (PBUH). They argue that as God said to Moses (PBUH) that the Prophet will be “like unto thee” and Jesus is like Moses so it is Jesus who has been foretold here. They say that as Moses (PBUH) was a Jew (an Israelite) and a Prophet and Jesus (PBUH) was also a Jew and a Prophet so he is like Moses. We venture to ask them if these are the only two similarities between Jesus and Moses then surely all the Jewish Prophets after Moses like David, Solomon, Ezekiel, Hosea, Jonah, Joel, Zechariah and John the Baptist (Peace Be upon Them All) were all Jews and Prophets. If being a Jew and a Prophet is the only standard to qualify for this Prophecy then why do you ignore the earlier Prophets? Why do you make the fish of one and fowl of another?

a- SIMILARITIES BETWEEN PROPHET MUHAMMAD AND MOSES:

Both Muhammad and Moses had a father and a mother but Jesus only had a mother and no father.
Both Muhammad and Moses were born in a normal, natural course but Jesus was born miraculously without any male intervention.
Both Muhammad and Moses married and had children while Jesus remained bachelor all his life.
Although Muhammad and Moses also faced many difficulties during their propagation but before their demise both of them were accepted by their people as Messengers of God. But Jesus was rejected by his own people.(John 1:11)
Both Muhammad and Moses were Prophets as well as Kings. (They were Kings in a sense that they had the power of life and death over their people.) But Jesus never tasted such power. He claimed only a spiritual kingdom for himself. (John 18:36)
Both Muhammad and Moses died natural deaths but according to Christianity Jesus was violently killed on the Cross.
Both Muhammad and Moses brought new Laws for their people but Jesus did not come with a new Law. He came only to fulfill the previous Judaic Law. (Matthew 5:17-18)
Both Muhammad and Moses lie buried on earth, but according to Christians (and even Muslims) Jesus rests in the heaven.
These arguments prove that surely Muhammad was like Moses and Jesus was most unlike Moses. Therefore this prophecy refers only to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

b- “AMONG THEIR BRETHREN”:

As Moses was a Prophet to the Israelites so in this verse they have been referred to as a single entity. And as the Prophet was to be raised among their brethren so he must be raised among the Ishmaelites. Abraham had two sons, Isaac and Ishmael; therefore the children of one are the brethren of the children of the other. Muhammad surely was an Ishmaelite while Jesus was himself an Israelite. Had this prophecy been about Jesus then God should have told the Moses and the Israelites that the Prophet will be raised among their descendents or Sons, not their brethren.

c- “HE SHALL SPEAK IN MY NAME”:

The God says that “the Prophet” will speak in His name. Muhammad surely spoke in the name of God. Every chapter (except #9) of the Book i.e. the Quran which Muhammad brought, starts with a same Arabic phrase : بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

which means: “IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE MOST MERCIFUL, THE MOST BENEFICIENT”

And Muhammad used to begin his every act with the same phrase, and so do the Muslims in his imitation.

In the light of all the above stated facts we are left with no choice but to accept that the Prophet foretold in this Prophecy is no other than Muhammad (On him be peace and blessings of God).

d- WARNING FROM GOD:

After giving the good news of the coming of the Great Prophet, God gives a grave warning as well i.e. the one who will not pay attention to the words of the Prophet, God will question him. It is a warning to the Christians and Jews who reject the message and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).3

3-MUHAMMAD FORETOLD IN DEUTERONOMY 33:2:

The verse 2 of the chapter 33 of the Book of Deuteronomy goes as;

“AND HE (Moses) SAID, THE LORD CAME FROM SINAI, AND ROSE

FROM SEIR UNTO THEM; HE SHINETH FORTH FROM MOUNT PARAN,

AND HE CAME WITH TEN THOUSAND SAINTS: FROM HIS RIGHT

HAND WENT A FIERY LAW FOR THEM”

(Deuteronomy 33:2)

Here it is told in a bit metaphorical manner that the Glory of God came and rose from Sinai and Seir but it shined the most from Mount Paran (Arabic Faran i.e. Mecca), which is in Arabia. None of the Israelites including Jesus (PBUH) had anything to do with Paran (Mecca). Prophet Abraham (PBUH) left his wife Hagar and his son Ishmael in this wilderness. Ishmael later married an Egyptian woman and through them descended the Arabs. Muhammad (PBUH) surely was an Arab. He was born in Mecca and received the first revelation in the cave of Mount Paran (Mountain of Mecca). Thus the Glory of God did shine in the person of Muhammad (PBUH). It is a historical fact that he came with Ten Thousand Companions ___ veritable saints ___ at the eve of the conquest of Mecca. And he gave the world a Fiery Law i.e. the Quran.4

4-PROPHET DAVID CALLS MUHAMMAD “MY LORD”(Psalms 110:1):

The words of Prophet David are quoted in his Psalm #110, verse 1;

“THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD,

SIT AT MY RIGHT UNTIL I PLACE

THINE ENEMIES A FOOTSTOOL UNDER THY FEET”

(Psalms 110:1)

This translation provides a room for the Christians to prove that Jesus Christ (PBUH) has been mentioned in this verse. “If the first Lord is God, the second Lord is also God”, argue the Christians. Let’s refer to the original Hebrew words of the first phrase of this quotation to find the truth. The original Hebrew words are;

“YaH WaH SAID TO MY ADON”

The word “YaH WaH” is used for God in the Old Testament while the word “ADON” signifies a “Commander, Lord and Master”.

The correct translation in light of the above explanation must be;

“THE GOD SAID TO MY LORD”

This translation has now been adopted by the Christians as well.

This verse surely does not refer to Jesus (PBUH) for he was a son (a descendent) of David (Matthew 1:1) and he himself repudiated the idea that the Messiah (the Deliverer, the Prophet) whom Israel was expecting was a son of David (PBUH). (Matthew 22:44-45, Mark 12:35-37, Luke 20:41-44). Had this verse been about Jesus, David should have called him “My Son” for it makes no sense to call a son “My Lord”.

This verse evidently refers to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Consider the following points;

In the eyes of God and man, the “Adon”, the greatest Prophet is the one who rendered more service to mankind by bringing them into the light of the One True God. Compare the praiseworthy religious revolution that the Noble son of Ishmael brought about in the world, with what all the thousands of prophets put together have achieved, and you will definitely come to the conclusion that it is alone Muhammad(PBUH) who could deserve the title of the Adon, the Lord, the Leader and the Commander.
As Christ said “David in spirit wrote this”, this mystery of “Sit thou at my right” is hidden from us yet we may safely conjecture that the honour of sitting at the right of the Throne of God was given to Prophet Muhammad(PBUH) during the famous Night of Ascension (Mi’raj) to the Heavens.5

5-MUHAMMAD MENTIONED BY NAME (Song of Solomon 5:16):

The original Hebrew words of the Song of Solomon chapter 5 verse 16 are;

“HIKKO MAMITTAKIM WE KULLO MUHAMMADIM ZEHDOODEH

WA ZEHRAEE BAYNA JERUSALEM”

The suffix “IM” is used for respect in Hebrew, so the word MUHAMMAD is changed to MUHAMMADIM.

In English this verse has been translated as;

“HIS MOUTH IS MOST SWEET: YEA, HE IS ALTOGETHER LOVELY.

THIS IS MY BELOVED, AND THIS IS MY FRIEND, O DAUGHTERS

OF JERUSALEM”

(Song of Solomon 5:16)

If the intention is not to conceal the truth then why a proper name should be translated to any other language? Although the Christians and the Jews have translated the name of Muhammad as “altogether lovely”, which he surely was, but in the Old Testament in Hebrew the name of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is still present.6

6-A DETAILED PROPHECY ABOUT PROPHET MUHAMMAD (Isaiah 21:13-17):

The Book of Isaiah contains a very explicit and detailed prophecy about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH);

“THE BURDEN UPON ARABIA. IN THE FOREST IN ARABIA SHALL

YE LODGE, O YE TRAVELLING COMPANIES OF DEDANIM. THE

INHABITANTS OF THE LAND OF TEMA BROUGHT WATER TO HIM

THAT WAS THIRSTY THEY PREVENTED WITH THEIR BREAD HIM

THAT FLED. FOR THEY FLED FROM THE SWORDS….AND FROM

THE BENT BOW, AND FROM THE GRIEVOUSNESS OF WAR. FOR

FOR THUS HATH THE LORD SAID UNTO ME. WITHIN A YEAR

ACCORDING TO THE YEARS OF AN HIRELING, AND ALL THE

GLORY OF KEDAR SHALL FAIL: AND THE RESIDUE OF THE NUMBERS

OF ARCHERS, THE MIGHTY MEN OF THE CHILDREN OF KEDAR

SHALL BE DIMINISHED”

(Isaiah 21:13-17)

It is clear without even an iota of doubt that this Prophecy refers to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) for it indicates some very important events of his life;

‘inhabitants of the land of Tema brought water to him that was thirsty’; It refers to the fact that when Prophet Muhammad was facing all lot of troubles at Mecca, so much so that once he and his tribe were restricted to Sheb-e- Abi Talib (the Valley of Abi Talib), where they lived in destitute and suffered severe thirst and hunger and when Prophet Muhammad’s mission apparently seemed to have failed the people of Medina came to their rescue. They not only offered them to come to Medina but they also provided them with all the necessities of life and a breeding place for the new faith.
‘They fled from the swords…and the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war’; This refers to the fact that when Prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina, the heathen Meccans had planned to (God forbid) kill Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
‘within a year…all the glory of Kedar shall fail…’; this statement refers to the Battle of Badr (which took place about one year after Muhammad’s emigration to Medina) when just 313 poorly armed Muslims, the followers of Muhammad(PBUH) defeated heavily armed 1000 Meccans, who were considered the most respected people among all the Arabs, the descendents of Kedar.7

7-MUHAMMAD, THE UNLEARNED PROPHET (Isaiah 29:12):

In the Book of Isaiah, chapter 29, verse 12 we read;

“AND THE BOOK IS DELIVERED TO HIM THAT IS NOT LEARNED,

SAYING, READ THIS, I PRAY THEE: AND HE SAITH, I AM NOT

LEARNED” (Isaiah 29:12)

(The words “I PRAY THEE” are not in the Hebrew manuscripts; compare with Roman Catholics’ “Douay Version” and the “Revised Standard Version”.)

The Prophet who is not learned

At the age of forty, one day Muhammad (PBUH) was meditating in the cave of Hira on the Mount Paran (Faran i.e. Mecca), suddenly he saw the Archangel Gabriel. The angel had come with the first revelation of the Last Heavenly BOOK i.e. the Quran, and he said to Muhammad اقرإ meaning “READ” and Muhammad replied ما انا بقارٍ which when translated means “I AM NOT LEARNED”. This is the exact fulfillment of this Prophecy.

Prophet Muhammad was surely an unlearned and unlettered Prophet for he had no formal schooling and he was never a student of anyone. But Miracle of Miracles without any human learning, “he put to shame the wisdom of the learned”.8

8-MUHAMMAD IN THE VISION OF PROPHET DANIEL (Daniel 7:2-14):

In the Book of Daniel we read of a vision that Prophet Daniel saw;

“DANIEL SPAKE AND SAID, I SAW IN MY VISION BY NIGHT, AND

BEHOLD, THE FOUR WINDS OF THE HEAVEN STROVE UPON THE

GREAT SEA”

“AND FOUR BEASTS CAME UP FROM THE SEA, DIVERSE FROM ONE

ANOTHER”

“THE FIRST WAS LIKE A LION, AND HAD EAGLE WINGS: I

BEHELD TILL THE WINGS THEREOF WERE PLUCKED, AND IT WAS

LIFTED UP FROM THE EARTH, AND MADE STAND UPON THE FEET

AS A MAN AND A MAN’S HEART WAS GIVEN TO IT”

“AND BEHOLD ANOTHER BEAST, A SECOND, LIKE TO A BEAR, AND IT

RAISED UP ITSELF ON ONE SIDE AND IT HAD THREE RIBS IN THE

MOUTH OF IT BETWEEN THE TEETH OF IT, AND THEY SAID THUS

UNTO IT, ARISE, DEVOUR MUCH FLESH”

“AFTER THIS I BEHELD, AND LO ANOTHER, LIKE A LEOPARD, WHICH

HAD ON THE BACK OF IT FOUR WINGS OF A FOWL; THE BEAST ALSO

HAD FOUR HEADS; AND DOMINION WAS GIVEN TO IT”

“AFTER THIS I SAW IN THE NIGHT VISIONS, AND BEHOLD A FOURTH

BEAST, DREADFUL AND TERRIBLE AND STRONG EXCEEDINGLY; AND

IT HAD GREAT IRON TEETH: IT DEVOURED AND: BRAKE IN PIECES, AND

STAMPED THE RESIDUE WITH THE FEET OF IT: AND IT DIVERSE FROM

ALL THE BEASTS THAT WERE BEFORE IT; AND IT HAD TEN HORNS”

“I CONSIDERED THE HORNS, AND, BEHOLD, THERE CAME UP AMONG

THEM ANOTHER LITTLE HORN, BEFORE WHOM THERE WERE THREE

OF THE FIRST HORNS PLUCKED UP BY THE ROOTS: AND, BEHOLD, IN

THIS HORN WERE THE EYES LIKE THE EYES OF A MAN, AND A MOUTH

SPEAKING GREAT THINGS”

“I BEHELD TILL THE THRONES WERE CAST DOWN, AND THE ANCIENT

OF DAYS DID SIT WHOSE GARMENT WAS WHITE AS SNOW, AND THE

HAIR OF HIS HEAD LIKE PURE WOOL: HIS THRONE WAS LIKE THE FIERY

FLAME AND HIS WHEELS AS BURNING FIRE”

“A FIERY STREAM ISSUED AND CAME FORTH FROM BFORE HIM: THOUSAND

THOUANDS MINISTERED UNTO HIM; AND TEN THOUSAND TIMES TEN

THOUSAND STOOD BEFORE HIM; THE JUDGEMENT WAS SET, AND THE

BOOKS WERE OPENED”

“I BEHELD THEN BECAUSE OF THE VOICE OF THE GREAT WORDS WHICH

THE HORN SPAKE; I BEHELD EVEN TILL THE BEAST WAS SLAIN AND

HIS BODY DESTROYED AND GIVEN TO THE BURNING FLAME”

“AS CONCERNING THE REST OF THE BEASTS, THEY HAD THEIR DOMINIONS

TAKE AWAY: YET THEIR LIVES WERE PROLONGED FOR A SEASON AND

TIME”

“I SAW IN THE NIGHT VISIONS, AND, BEHOLD ONE LIKE THE SON OF

A MAN WITH CLOUDS OF HEAVEN AND CAME TO THE ANCIENT OF DAYS,

AND THEY BROUGHT HIM NEAR BEFORE HIM”

“AND THERE WAS GIVEN HIM DOMINION AND GLORY, AND A KINGDOM

THAT ALL PEOPLE, NATIONS AND LANGUAGES, SHOULD SERVE HIM: HIS

DOMINION IS AN EVERLASTING DOMINION, WHICH SHALL NOT PASS AWAY,

AND HIS KINGDOM THAT WHICH SHALL NOT BE DESTROYED”

(The Bible, Daniel 7:2-14)

According to the interpretation of the Angel each of the four beasts represents an Empire.

a-The first beast; the first beast that looks like an eagle-winged lion signifies the Chaldean empire, which was mighty and rapid like a lion to pounce upon the enemy.

b-The second beast; the second beast that looks like a bear represents the Medeo-Persian Empire, which extended its conquests as far as the Adriatic Sea and Ethiopia, thus holding with its teeth a rib from the body of each of the three continents of Eastern Hemisphere.

c-The third beast; the third beast refers to the triumphant marches of Alexander the Great which was swift and fierce like a tiger. After the death of Alexander, his vast Empire was divided into four kingdoms.

d-The fourth beast; the fourth beast that looked like a monster and a demon was the Formidable Roman Empire.

e-The Ten Horns; the Ten Horns are the ten Emperors of Rome who persecuted the early Christians. These are the famous “Ten Persecutors” of the Church history.

f-The little horn….before which three horns break down; the Little Horn represents Constantine the Great, who fought with Maximian and two other (1+2=3) rivals and eventually captured the throne. All the earlier beasts were irrational brutes but the Little Horn had human mouth and eyes i.e. it represented a hideous monster endowed with reason and speech. The enmity of the beasts to the believers in God was brutal and savage, but that of the rational Horn was diabolic and malignant.

g-The Horn that speaks ‘big thing’ against the God; the Little Horn, Constantine the Great, said ‘big things’ and ‘great words’ against the Most High, the Almighty God. Constantine pretended to profess Christianity but in actual he perverted the true religion of Christ. He blasphemed against God by associating with Him other creatures and ascribing to Him foolish names and attributes such as “begetter” and “begotten”, “unity in trinity” and “incarnation”. He thus denied the Absolute Unity of God.

h-The Son of Man, taken up…; the Son of Man cannot be Jesus Christ (PBUH) because he lived before Constantine and the Ten Prosecutors. Muhammad (PBUH) surely came after them. The son of Man was taken up and given the power. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) ascended to the Heavens during his miraculous night journey and he was given the Power to subdue the Evil. So the Muslims, the followers of Muhammad (PBUH) within due course of time conquered all the Kingdoms which were represented as beasts. Therefore it is clear that the Barnasha, the Son of Man is definitely Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

i-He was given kingdom and glory…and his kingdom shall not be destroyed: Yes, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was given the power and glory so much so that just within few brief years Muslims, his followers destroyed the Roman Empire in the East and the other beasts were also destroyed. And today people from every nation and language group believe in him and thus serve and pay homage to him.9

INFACT THIS PROPHECY IS ONE OF THE MOST EXPLICIT PROPHECIES ABOUT PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) IN THE BIBLE.

9-MUHAMMAD IS “THE DESIRE OF ALL THE NATIONS” (Haggai 2:7-9):

Prophet Haggai (PBUH) gives the glad tidings of the coming of the Great Messenger, the desire of all the nations;

“AND I WILL SHAKE ALL NATIONS, AND THE DESIRE OF ALL THE

NATIONS WILL COME, AND I FILL THIS HOUSE WITH GLORY, SAYS

THE LORD OF HOSTS. MINE IS THE SILVER, MINE IS THE GOLD, SAYS

THE LORD OF HOSTS, THE GLORY OF MY LAST HOUSE SHALL BE

GREATER THAN THAT OF THE FIRST ONE, SAYS THE LORD OF HOSTS,

IN THIS PLACE I WILL GIVE PEACE, SAYS THE LORD OF HOSTS”

(Haggai 2:7-9)

Prophet Haggai (PBUH) gave these glad tidings when the people of Israel were rebuilding the House of God at Jerusalem after it was destroyed by the Chaldeans, the whole population of Ten Tribes was deported into Assyria and the unmassacred remnants of Judah and Benjamin were transported to Babylon. When the foundations of the new house of God were being laid Prophet Haggai (PBUH) gave this good news. Let’s find out as to who was this Great Prophet, the Desire of all the Nations.

The original Hebrew word that has been translated as ‘the Desire of All the Nations’ is HIMDA which has got the same root as AHMED or MUHAMMAD. ‘HIMDA’, ‘AHMED’ and ‘MUHAMMAD’ all mean the same i.e. ‘the coveted, loved, desired and praised’.
The phrases “I FILL THIS HOUSE WITH GLORY” and “THE GLORY OF MY LAST HOUSE SHALL BE GREATER THAN THAT OF THE FIRST ONE” refer to the miraculous visit of Prophet Muhammad to the Temple of Jerusalem. It was at this eve that the temple was filled with the glory of God as all the Prophets gathered in the temple and offered their prayers in the leadership of Prophet Muhammad.
The original Hebrew word that has been translated as peace is SHALOM. Every scholar of the Semitic languages knows that SHALOM and ISLAM are derived from the one and the same root and that both mean ‘peace, submission, and resignation (to the will of God)’.10

10-MUHAMMAD IS “THE LORD WHOM YOU DESIRE” (Malachi 3:1):

In the last Book of the Old Testament, Malachi, we find yet another prophecy fulfilled in the person of Prophet Muhammad. The God is reported to have said;

“BEHOLD I WILL SEND MY MESSENGER, AND HE SHALL PREPARE

THE WAY BEFORE ME; AND THE LORD WHOM YE SEEK, SHALL

SUDDENLY COME TO HIS TEMPLE; EVEN THE MESSENGER OF THE

COVENANT, WHOM YE DELIGHT IN: BEHOLD, HE SHALL COME,

SAITH THE LORD OF HOSTS.”

(Malachi 3:1)

Again the first point that needs our attention is ‘THE LORD WHOM YOU DESIRE’. Here again the original Hebrew word is ‘Himda’ which is identical to the Arabic ‘Ahmed”, another name of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Quite often we find this word ‘Himda’ in the Hebrew Scriptures which as proved earlier is identical to the ‘Ahmed’. And it is for this reason that Professor Abdul Ahad Dawood (former Bishop of Urmia) writes in one of his articles;
“That Emina, the widow of Abdullah, should name her orphan son ‘Ahmed’,

the first proper noun in the history of mankind, is, according to my humble

belief, the greatest miracle in favour of Islam”.

The second important point in this prophecy is that “SUDDENLY HE WILL COME TO HIS TEMPLE”. Certainly Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did visit the temple at Jerusalem suddenly during his miraculous night journey, first from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to the Heavens.11

II MUHAMMAD IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

1-JOHN THE BAPTIST FORETOLD A “POWERFUL PROPHET” (Matthew 3:11-12):

Prophet John the Baptist, whom we the Muslims know as Hazrat Yahya (PBUH), used to cry loud and say;

“I BAPTIZE YOU WITH WATER UNTO REPENTANCE AND THE FORGIVENESS

OF SINS. BUT THERE IS ONE THAT COMES AFTER ME WHO IS STRONGER

THAN I, THE LACES OF WHOSE SHOES I AM NOT WORTHY TO UNTIE, HE

WILL BAPTIZE YOU WITH THE SPIRIT AND WITH FIRE”

a-‘that comes after me’; the clear preposition ‘after’ excludes Jesus from being the foretold Prophet. John the Baptist and Jesus were both contemporaries and were born in the same year. Muhammad (PBUH) surely came well after John the Baptist.

b-‘…who is stronger than I’; this statement also excludes Jesus (PBUH) from being the foretold Prophet because just like John the Baptist (PBUH) he was also at the mercy of the unbelieving Jews and according to the Christian belief he was also violently killed. But Muhammad (PBUH) surely was stronger than both of them as all his enemies were at last forced to subdue to him. And he completed his Prophetic mission successfully.

c-‘he will baptize you with spirit and fire’; Baptism is the process of spiritual purification. So the foretold Prophet was to not to use water for this purpose. Muhammad (PBUH) certainly purified his people with the Holy Quran, the word of God brought by the Spirit i.e. Archangel Gabriel.

d-‘his fan’; the ‘fan’ is the Holy Quran. The fan is used to separate the grains and the chaff and Quran, being Al-Furqan (the separator), separated the good and the evil. To the good Quran brought the news of ‘peace and tranquility’ while it warned ‘evil’ of the ever burning Hell Fire.12

2-MUHAMMAD IS “THE LEAST IN THE HEAVEN”(Matthew 11:11):

Prophet Jesus (PBUH) is reported to have said;

“VERILY I SAY UNTO YOU, NO MAN BORN OF WOMAN WAS EVER

GREATER THAN JOHN THE BAPTIST. BUT THE LEAST IN THE KINGDOM

OF THE HEAVEN IS GREATER THAN JOHN”

(The Bible, Matthew 11:11)

a-Jesus not the ‘least in the Heaven’; According to the testimony of Jesus (PBUH) no man born of woman was ever greater than John the Baptist. As Jesus was also born of a woman, Mary, so he was also not greater than John and thus he can’t be the ‘least in the heaven’.

b-what is the meaning of the ‘least in the Heaven’? The word Z’IRA’ in Aramaic, like Arabic ‘Saghir’ signifies ‘young’. So in the chronological order the Last of the Prophets would be the ‘least’ of them. All the Christians will agree that Jesus was not the Last Prophet as according to the Bible not only “Apostles of Christ” but many other holy men were favoured with prophethood. (Acts 11:27-28 / 13:1 / 15:32 / 21:9-10). Muhammad (PBUH) surely was the Last of all the Prophets and so he is the one whom Jesus called greater then John.” 13

3-WHAT JESUS SAID ABOUT PROPHET MUHAMMAD (John chapter 14,15&16):

Prophet Jesus said the following words about Prophet Muhammad;

a- John chapter 14 verse 16:

“AND I WILL PRAY THE FATHER, AND HE SHALL GIVE YOU ANOTHER

COMFORTER THAT HE MAY ABIDE WITH YOU FOREVER”

The ‘Comforter’ will abide with you forever in a way that he will be alive in his teachings forever. It is an irrefutable fact that the teachings of Muhammad (PBUH) have been preserved till today without even an iota of corruption.

b- John chapter 15 verse 26:

“BUT WHEN THE COMFORTER IS COME, WHOM I WILL SEND UNTO YOU

FROM THE FATHER, EVEN THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, WHICH PROCEEDETH

FROM THE FATHER, HE SHALL TESTIFY OF ME”

Surely Muhammad (PBUH) was the Spirit of Truth who was called “Sadiq” even before he announced his prophethhod. Muhammad (PBUH) testified Jesus (PBUH) and refuted all the accusations that Jews made against him.

c- John chapter 16 verse 7:

Jesus said;

“NEVERTHELESS I TELL YOU THE TRUTH; IT IS EXPEDIENT FOR YOU

THAT I GO AWAY: FOR IF I GO NOT AWAY, THE COMFORTER WILL NOT

COME UNTO YOU; BUT IF I DEPART, I WILL SEND HIM UNTO YOU”

The Greek word found in the manuscripts is Paracletos which is the warped reading for Perilytos which actually means ‘advocate’ or a ‘kind friend’ rather than a ‘comforter’. But even then this prophecy refers to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who is a mercy for all creatures.

Some Christians say that this Prophecy refers to the Holy Ghost. They are wrong because the prophecy clearly says that the Comforter will come to you only if Jesus departs but the Holy Ghost was already present on earth before and during the time of Jesus, in the womb of Elizabeth, and again when Jesus being baptized, etc. hence this prophecy refers to none but Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

d- John chapter 16 verse 24:

Jesus said;

“I HAVE YET MANY THINGS TO SAY UNTO YOU, BUT YE CANNOT BEAR

THEM NOW. HOWBEIT WHEN HE, THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH IS COME, HE WILL

GUIDE YOU UNTO ALL TRUTH: FOR HE SHALL NOT SPEAK OF HIMSELF;

BUT WHATSOEVER HE SHALL HEAR, THAT SHALL HE SPEAK: AND HE

WILL SHOW YOU ALL THINGS TO COME. HE SHALL GLORIFY ME”

‘he will guide you into all truth’; Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who was sent as the Last of all the Messengers was given a very comprehensive and practical Law. There is no problem to which Islam provide a solution.
‘he shall not speak of himself…’; Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did not say anything from his own side. The holy Quran says;
“HE DOES NOT SPEAK (AUGHT), OF (HIS OWN) DESIRE”

“IT IS NO LESS THAN INSPIRATION SENT DOWN TO HIM”

“HE WAS TAUGHT BY ONE MIGHTY IN POWER”

(Holy Quran 53:3-5)

‘he will show you things to come’; There are many Prophecies that Muhammad (PBUH) brought in the Quran and even more which he spoke (i.e.Hadith, his sayings). Even volumes can be written in this context.
‘he shall glorify me’; It is an irrefutable fact that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) glorified Jesus (PBUH) more than what all the missionaries have been able to do. All the Muslims love and revere Jesus and his mother only on his authority and remember there are about 1.5 billion Muslims around the world.
Some Christian Missionaries say that the accounts of the Pentecost festival given in the Book of Acts 2:1-12 were the fulfillment of what all Jesus said in John chapters 14,15 & 16. But its not true because St.Peter, whom the Master had appointed to “FEED MY LAMBS…FEED MY SHEEP”(John 21:15-16) made it crystal clear that;

“BUT THIS (Acts 2:1-12) IS THAT WHICH WAS SPOKEN BY THE PROPHET JOEL”

(The Bible, Acts 2:16) 14

  1. End-Time Role of the Four Beasts of Daniel chapter 7

    The four beasts of Daniel chapter 7 have an end-time role after the Sixth SEAL (Re.6:12-17).

    The four beasts of Daniel chapter 7 are four kings who come up from the sea (Dan.7:3) arising out of the earth (Dan.7:17).

    These four beasts/kings ascend from the bottomless pit once it has been opened at the Fifth TRUMPET, the First Woe (Re.9:1-2, 12). These four beasts/kings ascend out of the bottomless pit at the same time.

    These four beasts/kings are “the transgressors” and are of a single nation with a plural kingdom (Dan.8:22-23). AFTER the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up (Dan.8:23). He is the little horn (Dan.7:8), the false prophet. He also ascends from the bottomless pit (Re.11:7, Re.17:8, Isa.38:18, Ps.28:1).

    The fourth beast of Daniel chapter 7 is seen in the book of Revelation as the beast of Revelation 13:1.

    The little horn/false prophet is seen in the book of Revelation as the beast of Revelation 13:11, and he is also seen as the scarlet-colored beast once he sits in the temple of God showing himself that he is God (2 Thess.2:4).

    The ten horns on the scarlet-colored beast’s head (Re.17:3) will have power as kings for ONE HOUR with the scarlet-colored beast (Re.17:12), one hour before the battle of Armageddon is fought (Re.19:11-21).

    After the battle of Armageddon, the first three beasts/kings of the four beasts/kings (Dan.7:3, Dan.7:17) will have their lives prolonged for a season and time beyond the destruction of the fourth beast/king and the false prophet at the battle of Armageddon (Dan.7:11-12, Re.19:20).

    The spiritual opening of the bottomless pit (Re.9:1-2, Isa.38:18, Ps.28:1) is in the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is outside of Jerusalem, and will be outside of that great city, the holy Jerusalem (Re.21:10) in the new earth. In the new earth there is no more sea (Re.21:1). In the new earth, all those who have transgressed against God will be looked upon (Isa.66:24, Re.14:10)

  2. Thanks for the comments. This is what Professor David Benjamin Keldani, B.D. (died 1940c) Former Roman Catholic Bishop of the Uniate Chaldean has to say:

    “Four winds of heaven were roaring against the great sea.” The first beast that comes out from the deep sea is a winged lion; then comes forth the second beast in the shape of a bear holding three ribs between its teeth. This is succeeded by the third terrible beast in the form of a tiger having four wings and four heads. The fourth beast, which is more formidable and ferocious than the former ones, is a monster with ten horns upon its head, and has iron teeth in its mouth. Then a little horn shoot up amidst the others, before which three horns break down. Behold, human eyes and mouth appear upon this horn, and it begins to speak great things against the Most High. Suddenly, in the midst of the firma- ment the vision of the Eternal is seen amidst a resplendent light, seated upon His tribune (Arabic: Korsi) of the flames of light whose wheels were of shining light. A river of light is flowing and going forth before Him; and millions of celes- tial beings are worshiping Him and tens and tens of thousands of them are standing before Him. The Judgment Court is, as it were, holding its extraordinary session; the books are opened. The body of the beast is burnt with fire, but the blaspheming Horn is left alive until a “Bar Nasha” – that is, a “Son of Man” – is taken up on the clouds and presented to the Eternal, from whom he receives power, honor and kingdom for ever. The stupefied Prophet approaches one of those standing by and beseeches him to explain the mean- ing of this wonderful vision. The good Angel gives the interpretation of it in such a manner that the whole mystery enveloped in the figurative or allegorical language and image is brought to light.

    Being a prince of the royal family, Daniel was taken, together with three other Jewish youths, to the palace of the King of Babylon, where he was educated in all the knowledge of the Chaldeans. He lived there until the Persian Conquest and the fall of the Babylonian Empire. He prophesied under Nebuchadnezzar as well as under Darius. The Biblical critics do not ascribe the authorship of the entire Book to Daniel, who lived and died at least a couple of centuries before the Greek Conquest, which he mentions under the name of “Yavan = Ionia.” The first eight chapters – if I am not mistaken – are written in the Chaldean and the latter portion in the Hebrew. For our immediate purpose it is not so much the date and the authorship of the book that forms the important question as the actual fulfillment of the prophecy, contained in the Septuagint version, which was made some three centuries before the Christian era.

    According to the interpretation by the Angel, each one of the four beasts represents an empire. The eagle-winged lion signifies the Chaldean Empire, which was mighty and rapid like an eagle to pounce upon the enemy. The bear represents the “Madai-Paris,” or the Medo-Persian Empire, which extended its conquests as far as the Adriatic Sea and Ethiopia, thus holding with its teeth a rib from the body of each one of the three continents of the Eastern Hemisphere. The third beast, from its tigrish nature of swift bounds and fierceness, typifies the triumphant marches of Alexander the Great, whose vast empire was, after his death, divided into four kingdoms.

    But the Angel who interprets the vision does not stop to explain with details the first three kingdoms as he does when he comes to the fourth beast. Here he enters with emphasis into details. Here the scene in the vision is magnified. The beast is practically a monster and a huge demon. This is the formidable Roman Empire. The ten horns are the ten Emperors of Rome who persecuted the early Christians. Turn the pages of any Church history for the first three centuries down to the time of the so-called conversion of Constantine the Great, and you will read nothing but the horrors of the famous “Ten Persecutions.”

    So far, all these four beasts represent the “Power of Darkness,” namely, the kingdom of satan, idolatry.

    In this connection let me divert your attention to a luminous truth embodied in that particularly important article of the Faith of Islam: “The Good and Evil are from Allah.’ It will be remembered that the old Persians believed in a “duality of gods,” or, in other words, the Principle of Good and Light, and the other the Principle of Evil and Darkness; and that these eternal beings were eternal enemies. It will be observed that among the four beasts the Persian Power is represented by the figure of a bear, less ferocious than, and not so carnivorous as, the other three; and what is more: inasmuch as it can roam upon its hind legs it resembles man – at least from some distance.

    In all the Christian theological and religious literature I have read, I have never met with a single statement of phrase similar to this article of the Muslim Faith: God is the real author of good and evil. This article of the Muslim Faith, as the contrary, is extremely repugnant to the Christian religion, and a source of hatred against the religion of Islam. Yet this very doctrine is explicitly announced by God to Cyrus, whom He calls His “Christ.” He wants Cyrus to know that there is no god besides Him, and declares: –

    “I am the Fashioner of the light, and the Creator of the darkness, the Maker of peace, and the Creator of evil; I am the Lord who does all these” (Isa. xlv. 1-7).

    That God is the author of evil as well as of good is not in the least repulsive to the idea of God’s goodness. The very denial of it is opposed to the absolute Oneness of the Almighty. Besides, what we term or understand as “evil” only affects the created beings, and it is for the development and the improvement of the creatures; it has not in the least any effect on God.

    Now let us examine and find out who the Little Horn is. Having once definitely ascertained the identity of this eleventh king, the identity of the Bar Nasha will be settled per se. The Little Horn springs up after the Ten Persecutions under the reigns of the emperors of the Roman Power. The empire was writhing under four rivals, Constantine being one of them. They were all struggling for the purple; the other three died or fell in battle; and Constantine was left alone as the supreme sovereign of the vast empire.

    The earlier Christian commentators have in vain labored to identity this ugly Little Horn with the Anti-Christ, with the Pope of Rome by Protestants, and with the establisher of Islam. (God forbid!) But the later Bibical critics are at a loss to solve the problem of the fourth beast which they wish to identify with the Greek Empire and the Little Horn with Antiochus. Some of the critics, e.g. Carpenter, consider the Medo-Persian Power as two separate kingdoms. But this empire was not more two than the late Austro-Hungarian Empire was. The explorations carried on by the Scientific Mission of the French savant, M. Morgan, in Shushan (Susa) and elsewhere leave no doubt on this point. The fourth beast can, therefore, be no other than the old Roman world.

    To show that the Little Horn is no other than Constantine the Great, the following arguments can safely be advanced: –

    (a) He overcame Maximian and the other two rivals and assumed the purple, and put an end to the persecution of Christianity. Gibbon’s, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire is, I think, the best history that can instruct us about those times. You can never invent four rivals after the Ten Persecutions of the Church, other than Constantine and his enemies who fell before him like the three horns that fell before the little one.

    (b) All the four beasts are represented in the vision as irrational brutes; but the Little Horn possessed a human mouth and eyes which is, in other words, the description of a hideous monster endowed with reason and speech. He pro- claimed Christianity as the true religion, left Rome to the Pope and made Byzantium, which was named Constantinople, the seat of the empire. He pretended to profess Christianity but was never baptized till a little before his death, and even this is a disputed question. The legend that his conversion was due to the vision of the Cross in the sky has long since – like the account about Jesus Christ inserted in the Antiquities of Josephus – been exploded as another piece of forgery.

    The enmity of the beasts to the believers in God was brutal and savage, but that of the rational Horn was diabolical and malignant. This enmity was most noxious and harmful to the religion, because it was directed to pervert the Truth and the faith. All the previous attacks of the four empires were pagan; they persecuted and oppressed the believers but could not pervert the truth and the faith. It was this Constantine who entered in the fold of Jesus in the shape of a believer and in the clothes of a sheep, but inwardly he was not a true believer at all. How poisonous and pernicious this enmity was will be seen from the following: –

    (c) The Horn-Emperor speaks “big things” or “great words” (rorbhan in the Chaldean tongue) against the Most High. To speak blasphemous words about God, to associate with Him other creatures, and to ascribe to Him foolish names and attributes, such as the “begetter” and “begotten,” “birth” and “procession” (of the second and the third person), “unity in the trinity” and “incarnation,” is to deny His Oneness.

    Ever since the day when God revealed to Abraham in Ur of the Chaldees until the Creed and the Acts of the Council of Nicea were proclaimed and enforced by an imperial edict of Constantine amidst the horror and protests of three-fourths of the true believing members in A.D. 325, never has the Oneness of God so officially and openly been profaned by those who pretended to be His people as Constantine and his gang of the unbelieving ecclesiastic! In the first article of this series I have shown the error of the Churches concerning God and His attributes. I need not enter into this unpleasant subject again; for it gives me great pain and grief when I see a Holy Prophet and a Holy Spirit, both God’s noble creatures, associated with Him by those who ought to know better.

    lf Brahma and Osiris, or if Jupiter and Vesta were associated with God, we would simply consider this to be a pagan belief; but when we see Jesus the Prophet of Nazareth and one of the millions of the holy spirits in the service of the Eternal raised equal to the dignity of God, we cannot find a name for those who so believe other than what the Muslims have always been obliged to use – the epithet “Gawun.”

    Now, since this hideous Horn speaking great words, uttering blasphemies against God, is a king – as the Angel reveals it to Daniel, and since the king was the eleventh of the Caesars who reigned in Rome and persecuted the people of God, he cannot be other than Constantine, because it was his edict that proclaimed the belief in the trinity of persons in the Deity, a creed which the Old Testament is a living document to condemn as blasphemy, and which both the Jews and Muslims abhor. If it is other than Constantine, then the question arises, who is he? He has already come and gone, and not an impostor or the Anti-Christ hereafter to appear, that we may be unable to know and identify. If we do not admit that the Horn in question has come already, then how are we to interpret the four beasts, the first of which is certainly the Chaldean Empire, the second the MedoPersian, and so forth? If the fourth beast does not represent the Roman Empire, how can we interpret the third, with its four heads, as the Empire of Alexander, split into four kingdoms after his death? Is there any other Power succeeding the Greek Empire before the Roman Empire with its ten potentates persecuting the believers in God? Sophistry and illusion are of no use. The “Little Horn” is decidedly Constantine, even if we may deny the prophecy of Daniel. It is immaterial whether a prophet, priests or a sorcerer wrote the seventh chapter of the Book of Daniel. One thing is certain, that its predictions and descriptions of the events, some twenty-four centuries ago, are found to be exact, true, and have been fulfilled in the person of Constantine the Great, whom the Church of Rome has always very wisely abstained from beatifying as a Saint, as the Greek Church has done.

    (d) Not only does the “Little Horn,” which grew into something of a more “formidable vision” than the rest, speak impious words against the Most High, but also it wages war against the “Saints of the Most High, and vanquishes them” (verse 25). In the eyes of a Hebrew Prophet the people who believed in one God was a separate and holy people. Now it is indisputably true that Constantine persecuted those Christians who, like the Jews, believed in the absolute Oneness of God and courageously declared the Trinity to be a false and erroneous conception of the Deity. More than a thousand ecclesiastics were summoned to the General Council at Nicea (the modern Izmid), of whom only three hundred and eighteen persons subscribed to the decisions of the Council, and these too formed three opposite factions with their respec- tive ambiguous and unholy expressions of “homousion” or “homoousion,” “consubstantial,” and other terms utterly and wholly strangers to the Prophets of Israel, but only worthy of the “Speaking Horn.”

    The Christians who suffered persecutions and martyrdoms under the pagan emperors of Rome because they believed in One God and in His worshiper Prophet Jesus were now doomed by the imperial edict of the “Christian” Constantine to even severer tortures because they refused to adore the Prophet Jesus as consubstantial and coeval with his Lord and Creator! The Elders and Ministers of the Arian Creed, i.e. Qashishi and Mshamshani – as they were called by the early Jewish Christians – were deposed or banished, their religious books suppressed, and their churches seized and handed over to the Trinitarian bishops and priests. Any historical work on the early Christian Church will give us ample information about the service rendered by Constantine to the cause of the Trinitarian Creed, and tyranny to those who opposed it. The merciless legions in every province were placed at the disposal of the ecclesiastical authorities. Constantine personifies a regime of terror and fierce war against the Unitarians, which lasted in the East for three centuries and a half, when the Muslims established the religion of Allah and assumed the power and dominion over the lands trodden and devastated by the four beasts.

    (e) The “Talking Horn” is accused of having contem- plated to change “the Law and the times.” This is a very serious charge against the Horn. Its blasphemies or “great words against the Most High” may or may not affect other people, but to change the Law of God and the established holy days or festivals would naturally subvert the religion altogether. The first two commandments of the Law of Moses, concerning the absolute Oneness of God – “Thou shalt have no other gods besides Me” – and the strict prohi- bition of making images and statues for worship were directly violated and abrogated by the edict of Constantine. To proclaim three personal beings in the Deity and to confess that the Eternal Almighty was conceived and born of the Virgin Mary is the greatest insult to the Law of God and the grossest idolatry. To make a golden or wooden image for worship is abominable enough, but to make a mortal an object of worship, declare him God, and even adore the bread and the wine of the Eucharist as “the body and blood of God,” is an impious blasphemy.

    Then to every righteous Jew and to a Prophet like Daniel, who from his youth was a most devoted observer of the Mosaic Law, what could be more repugnant than the substitution of the Easter for the Paschal Lamb of the great feast of the Passover and the sacrifice of the “Lamb of God” upon the cross, and upon thousands of altars every day? The abrogation of the Sabbath day was a direct violation of the fourth command of the Decalogue, and the institution of Sunday instead was as arbitrary as it is inimical. True, the Qur’an abrogated the Sabbath day, not because the Friday was a holier day, but simply because the Jews made an abuse of it by declaring that God, after the labor of six days, reposed on the seventh day, as if He were man and was fatigued. Prophet Muhammad would have destroyed any day or object, however holy or sacred, if it were made an object of worship intending to deal a blow or injury to God’s Greatness and Glory. But the abrogation of the Sabbath by the decree of Constantine was for the institution of the Sunday on which Jesus is alleged to have risen from the sepulcher. Jesus himself was a strict observer of the Sabbath day, and reprimanded the Jewish leaders for their objection to his doing the deeds of charity on it.

    (f) The “Horn” was allowed to make war against the Saints of the Most High for a period of some three centuries and a half; it only “weakened” them, made “them languid – but could not extinguish and entirely root them out. The Arians, who believed in One God alone, sometimes, e.g. under the reign of Constantius (the son of Constantine), of Julian and others who were more tolerant, strongly defended themselves and fought for the cause of their faith.
